Travel

I've been fortunate to explore incredible places, connect with amazing individuals, and immerse myself in diverse cultures. While I plan to go into more detailed accounts of my travel experiences in separate posts, I want to take this opportunity to emphasize the enriching aspects of traveling in your 20s.

I want to acknowledge that not everyone has the same opportunities for extensive travel, but there are alternative avenues for self-discovery and cultural understanding.

My passion for travel began in 2019 when I secured a spot in a dolphin research project in Greece for the summer of 2020. However, as we're all aware, the unforeseen circumstances of COVID-19 disrupted those plans, leaving me disappointed. The following summer, I researched destinations I could visit without travel restrictions and discovered Costa Rica. With its blend of beaches, mountains, and adventures, the unknown charm of this country unexpectedly kindled my love for exploration.

Embarking on this journey at such a young age, without the safety net of parental guidance, proved to be a pivotal chapter in my life. While I did meet a travel group upon reaching my destination, it undeniably pushed me out of my comfort zone. The experience was profoundly eye-opening as I found myself in a country drastically different from anything I had ever encountered. It gave me a fresh perspective, fostering a deep appreciation for what I have. From learning to surf, mastering the art of crafting coffee and chocolate, ziplining through towering trees, and exploring enchanting beaches and hanging bridges, every encounter left me feeling empowered to navigate the world independently. It fueled my eagerness to explore more countries.

The following summer, I studied abroad in Rome, Italy, and a year later, I embarked on a solo European adventure before studying again in Vietnam and Thailand. It's safe to say that I caught the travel bug.

What I've learned from all my travels surpasses anything that can be taught within a classroom or online. I've grown comfortably independent, savoring solitary moments walking unmarked streets, strolling through farmers' markets, and exploring new cafes. I've learned to navigate unpredictable circumstances easily, developed a profound understanding of diverse cultures, and forged connections with those inhabiting them.

So, to anyone considering traveling solo or with others…let this be a sign to go for it. I have never met anyone who said they regretted traveling, only people who regretted not going.
